Indianapolis With as much attention as the Democratic presidential candidates have paid to Indiana in the past two weeks, there still plenty more to come. Eyewitness News political analysts think both Senators Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama are in for the long haul.

"Indiana vote gonna matter," said Democratic analyst Robin Winston. "She (Senator Hillary Clinton) ahead in Pennsylvania, I think Barack could close that. Senator from there endorsing him makes a major difference." Ryan Pickett Womens Jersey

"There no way she gets out," said Republican analyst Peter Rusthoven. "There no reason for him to get out. He leading and there no way she get out."

Clinton and her family have made nearly two dozen stops in Indiana, most recently on Saturday. Obama has only visited once, two weeks ago in Plainfield. His campaign promises the Illinois senator will be back.

"I think it very good for people to see politics up close, the way it used to be, and I glad to see our state be the focus of it," Rusthoven said. Authentic Alfred Blue Jersey

"This is unprecedented. There are people 65 years old screaming for Hillary Clinton. There are people 20 years old from Gary and other places in this state excited about Barack Obama," Winston said. "When my eight year old can spell both their last names and knows what they running for and all that, it permeated down to all levels."

Obama campaign spent the weekend opening eleven offices around the state. Hillary Clinton campaign will spend Monday opening a dozen satellite offices in Indiana. But Senators Hillary Rodham Clinton and Barack Obama are also battling behind the scenes for the support of Hoosier "superdelegates."

Indiana has 13 superdelegates lawmakers and party officials who are free to vote as they wish at the Democratic convention. The state also has 72 pledged delegates determined by the May 6 primary.

Indiana five Democratic congressmen are superdelegates, and all remain undecided.

Candidates start to emerge in Bears' coaching search

The Bears preference is to name a general manager first, but that doesn mean they sitting around and watching possible head coaches come and go.

According to league sources, the Bears requested permission Tuesday to speak to Denver Broncos offensive coordinator Adam Gase and Arizona Cardinals defensive coordinator Todd Bowles. Justin Tuggle Jersey

The Bears are set to interview Gase on Friday or Saturday, a league source said. That meeting may turn out to be on Saturday with the Bears scheduled to interview Seattle Seahawks defensive coordinator Dan Quinn on Friday, according to an NFL Network report.

Former Broncos and Washington Redskins coach Mike Shanahan is interested in coaching the Bears, a source said, but it unclear if that feeling is mutual.

The Bears may not have a GM in place by Friday, but it pertinent that the Bears connect with Gase and Quinn. Both coaches are highly respected in league circles and considered very innovative.

More important, the Broncos and Seahawks could be looking at long playoff runs again. League rules dictate when assistant coaches on playoff teams can meet with other teams. The Bears have this week to meet with Gase and Quinn with the Broncos and Seahawks having first round byes. They cannot be interviewed next week.

If the Broncos and Seahawks reach the Super Bowl for the second consecutive season, second interviews can be conducted until the extra week ending on Jan. 25 (the day of the Pro Bowl).

Gase and Bowles are being sought after by other teams with head coaching vacancies. The San Francisco 49ers and Atlanta Falcons also have requested permission to speak to Gase. Quinn has been linked to the Jets, 49ers and Falcons. Authentic Ryan Pickett Jersey

According to the Arizona Republic, every team with a head coaching vacancy the Bears, 49ers, Falcons, New York Jets and Oakland Raiders have requested permission to speak to Bowles.

Arizona faces the Carolina Panthers in the wild card round this Saturday. If the Cardinals advance, teams can interview Bowles next week, according to league rules. Alfred Blue Jersey

Candidates set for race to replace NH District 1 Executive Council seat that was held

CONCORD The field of three, diverse Republicans and one prominent Democrat is set for the special election to replace the late North Country icon Raymond Burton, of Bath, on the state Executive Council.

One by one potential late breaking candidates passed on a run, including former Grafton County Attorney Rick St. Hilaire, of Tilton, and ex state Sen. Mark Hounsell, of Conway, who both turned down pleas from supporters.

Likewise, anti tax and North Country conservatives tried and failed to get Highway Safety Agency Director Peter Thomson to consider retiring from his state job so he could make a go for the council.

He's the eldest son of the late Gov. Meldrim Thomson.

But the three way fight for the GOP nomination that remains means the general election runoff will be March 11, the same day local residents throughout this sprawling district also turn out for Town Meeting.

Had there not been a party contest, the final would have been Jan. 21, where such a low turnout could have lead to wildly unexpected results.

Now that otherwise quiet third Tuesday in January is when Republicans will choose between former state Sen. Joe Kenney, of Wakefield, ex Belknap County Commissioner Chris Boothby and longtime, now retired congressional aide Mark Aldrich, of Lebanon. Authentic Justin Tuggle Jersey

"This goes down in a little over a month so there's a lot of work to do in a short period of time and real uncertainty about who shows up," Kenney told reporters when he signed up last week.

The winner faces Democrat and Grafton County Commissioner Michael Cryans, of Hanover.

Cryans served for 17 years on the county financial board with Burton who held state and county elective posts for a quarter century.

In November 2012, there was a slight Democratic tilt to the ballots cast, 95,811 to 94,624, in this voting region that takes up part of seven state Senate districts.

Burton died Nov. 13, about eight months after he contracted kidney cancer. A moderate Republican from Woodsville, Burton held a hammer lock on the seat since 1978 except for a brief, two year hiatus.

In 2006, Kenney was the GOP nominee opposing the re election of popular Democrat John Lynch. Kenney lost that race badly getting less than 30 percent of the vote.

Before that race, Kenney had represented parts of Carroll, Belknap and Strafford Counties in the state Senate for six years and his hometown of Wakefield in the House for eight years before that.

Boothby, 47, has been a prominent executive with Lakes Region Healthcare in Laconia and had solid financial support in past campaigns for county office.
